Assessment
(Includes two outpatient consultations, laboratory investigations)
Patients
with chronic viral hepatitis are assessed at initial consultation and
at a follow-up appointment one week later with the results of their
laboratory investigations, following which they are deemed either suitable
or unsuitable for therapy.
Six- and twelve-month comprehensive treatment packages include
outpatient assessments by consultant physician & nurse specialist,
laboratory investigations, treatment costs, a 24-hour telephone helpline,
and end-of-treatment assessment.

Once incorporated
into the treatment programme, patients are assessed by our Hepatitis
Nurse Specialist, taught to self-administer their medications, and monitored
subsequently for the development of side effects of treatment.

Patients are initially reviewed on a weekly basis, undergo weekly laboratory
investigations with dose adjustment to their therapy for the first month,
then fortnightly for the second month of treatment, then monthly until
the completion of their therapy.
Some patients may require hospitalisation for a short period to initiate
therapy. Patients on Hepatitis C, twelve-month treatment plan who fail
to respond at four months will discontinue their therapy, and 50% of
overall treatment costs will be reimbursed in respect for unused portion
of treatment package.
All
patients who complete treatment undergo an end-of-treatment assessment
six months following the completion of treatment to establish whether
they have been cured of their chronic infection.
